Chasing Carrots

Standard

Pack your lunches
And dig your heels in deep
It’s going to be a long night…

Sweet friend Denial,
You numbed and soothed,
Time after time.
We must part now.

The walls of apathy
Are crumbling now
And the pain pierces,
Right through
Our thick-skinned ignorance.

How I wish,
You could remain
How I wish,
I could turn away again.

Let’s waste time
Chasing the horizon
As it goes farther
The closer we go.

Keep running,
You’ll never get
A bite of that carrot,
Keep on running, jack-ass!
