‘Human’ Waste

Standard

Between the dumpsters
Ignored by and oblivious to all,
Lies a fine specimen,
Of what they consider ‘waste’

Amidst the everyday garbage he lies,
One with the refused and the rejected.
For they do not deem him fit
For their company,sympathy or charity.

The rich offerings are for the Gods,
And God’s cousins,
And the left-overs –
The property of whichever stray
That lays its paws before the others.

But for the human reject,
NOTHING
Not even the name ‘human’.
‘Urchin’, ‘destitute’ or ‘homeless’
He counts for nothing.

They refuse to recognize him.
And he simply cannot,
So he remains stoic.
He doesn’t live in the world
That they keep him out of.
He has found a better one of his own.

With bare rugged hands,
Caked with dirt,
He snatches away,
What was to be the dinner ,
Of what
they call ‘best friend
Amongst those called ‘
men‘.

And then he retreats,
Covered in muck
To his perfect paradise,
Between the two dumpsters.

this one came as a surprise because all your stuff (with the exception of a post or two) has always had to do with you…..it’s more mature and well written..it helped me see, honestly and compassionately, at things most of us turn a blind eye to..

  2. You should have focused more on the scene where the dogs lay and others didnt bother. I think there could have been a much better job depicting the entire imagery.
